Anatomy of a Wedding

In many ways, a great dj & emcee is like the conductor of an orchestra as he controls the tempo and flow of your wedding and directs you and your guests through the various events that make up “You Big Day”.   All the while coordinating seamlessly with your banquet manager, videographer, photographer and all other vendors to ensure a day that is both memorable and fun for you, your family and guests.

Ceremony – Wedding ceremony music is most appropriate when you will be exchanging vows on the grounds of your reception facility.  Sublime and regal classical music will start playing 30 minutes before your ceremony begins and sets an elegant tone for your guests as they arrive and are seated. The music will sound as good as live musicians and at a fraction of the cost.

Cocktail Hour -  DJ music for cocktail hour is optional.  I don’t suggest it for small rooms with many guests as the volume of conversation usually mutes out the background music.  For an outdoor cocktail hour or bigger room a nice mix of jazz, light rock and old crooner tunes sets a nice ambience to kick off the evening.

THE RECEPTION
DJ Welcome and Bridal Party Introductions:
As your guests are seated in eager anticipation for the grand entrance of the bride and groom DJ Ace will welcome everyone in an elegant and professional manner with high-energy music playing in the background.  Usually the Bride and Groom’s proud parents are introduced right before the bridal party.  The Bridal party will be introduced and finally the Newlyweds will be announced into the room with energetic applause from their guests.

Our bride and groom will move to the middle of the floor for their first dance as husband and wife.  You have the options of dancing alone, inviting the bridal party to join in and sometimes all the guests.   This is followed by special parent dances for the Bride and Dad and the Groom and Mom but can also be done later in the evening.  In the event of a deceased parent our newlyweds can dance with a sibling or other special family member.

After the special dances, DJ Ace will call up your clergy or family member to say a blessing if you choose followed by a special champagne toast from our Best Man and Maid of Honor.  At this point your guests can be comfortably seated at their tables for their first course and the bride and groom can breathe a sigh of release.  The formalities are over and now It’s party time!”

Cake cutting ceremony and bouquet / garter toss - After your guests have enjoyed some lively dancing after dinner, the cake cutting ceremony is a fantastic “Kodak moment” for the bride and groom and guests.  It is surely a must for every wedding album and your guests will like to get this picture for their own personal collection.  After the cake is cut, our bride and groom will feed each other officially for the first time as husband and wife.  Watch out for the occasional whip cream facial!

The traditional bouquet and garter toss is optional and not as popular as it once was. Usually younger couples will choose this fun ceremony for their mostly younger and single guests.  It’s always fun if you have the right crowd but in no way mandatory.  A new popular tradition in lieu of is the anniversary dance.  Only married couples will dance to a song and slowly leave the dance floor until only the longest married couple remains.  After a round of applause this special couple is presented with the brides bouquet and a memorable picture with our bride and groom.

MUSIC SELECTION:  MY GOAL  -  PACK the DANCE FLOOR

As my client you can have as much say and control of the music selection throughout the evening. Most clients will usually provide a basic play list and let DJ Ace use his many years of experience to play the right song at the right time to keep the dance floor crowded all night. I recommend playing a broad selection of music, as your guests will range from grandparents to your niece the flower girl.  But at the end of the day the music that keeps people dancing will get the most airplay.

Audience Participation Dances:  Once a very popular form of wedding DJ entertainment, most clients still like it in smaller doses.  This is your Electric Slide, Chicken Dance, Cotton Eye Joe, YMCA or popular Cha Cha Slide.  DJ Ace can play all of these, just a few or none.  It’s your call.  Keep in mind even if it’s not your cup of tea, many guests will enjoy these dances and many times will pack the dance floor.  There is always one or two that is a family tradition or favorite.

Thank you for taking a tour of “The Anatomy of a wedding” and I hope to hear from you if you are interested in my DJ services.  Here is my wish for you.

"Dance as though no one is watching you,
love as though you have never hurt before,
sing as though no one can hear you,
and live as though heaven is on earth."

Best of Luck and have fun with all your wedding plans!
Musically Yours,
Neil “Ace” Horgan
